WALOA recommends that officials get vaccinated against COVID.
WIAA, WHSBLA, the leagues, and school districts will determine what is required of individuals having contact with players at their sites.
If proof of vaccination is required, notification will be provided to officials during the assignment process.
This will not be a WALOA request, this is driven by the leagues that employ you.
If required, officials shall have a copy of their vaccination status available when they enter all game sites.
This can be the paper vaccination card, a photo of that card, or a digital verification process.
WALOA recommends that all officials at all levels have a mask on their person from the time they enter the site until the time that they leave.
This applies to all Youth and High School contests.
Each site will have specific rules regarding when the mask needs to be worn.
WALOA recommends that the mask be worn when in close proximity to others (i.e. gear inspection, coin toss, pre-game discussion with coaches).
During the game the mask can be lowered at the official's discretion.
A general rule is if you're in contact <6 feet from others, pull your mask up.
Bottom line- each site will have their own policies regarding masks, officials must follow the requirements for each site.
